Running back Tyrone Crenshaw rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns in 25 carries as Sylmar High finished the regular season unbeaten with a 34-14 East Valley League win over host Poly on Friday night.
The defeat probably cost Poly (6-4, 3-4 in league play) a playoff berth. Sylmar, which already had clinched the league title, is 9-0, 7-0 in league play.
Fullback Ibn Bilal added 117 yards in six carries for Sylmar, including a 71-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Deon Price completed seven of 13 passes for 104 yards and one touchdown. Price also ran for a score.
Sylmar held Poly to only 33 yards through the first three quarters. The Parrots finished with 142 yards.
On a kickoff following the second Sylmar score, Poly’s Diego Alvarez returned the ball to his 40-yard line, where he was hit and fumbled. Ben Bejarano, a linebacker playing on the return team, picked up the loose ball and ran the final 60 yards for the score.
Poly played without six starters--eight players overall--who were suspended for academic and disciplinary reasons.
