BURBANK : Permit for Video Arcade Is Denied
- Share via
The Burbank City Council denied a permit for a proposed video arcade Tuesday night after it was discovered that the proposed business would violate city zoning codes because it was too close to a school.
The proposed video arcade at 933 N. Hollywood Way would be located within 500 feet of the entrance of Theodore Roosevelt School a block away at 850 North Cordova Street.
Initially it appeared that the arcade did not violate city zoning codes because the entrance to the business is more than 500 feet from the actual school building, city planners said. But after further review, it turned out that the arcade would be in violation because the entrance to the school property is less than 500 feet away.
In recent months, the city has rejected several applications for video arcades and pool halls while the city staff formulated a policy for regulating those businesses.
That ordinance is expected to be presented to the council in January.
