PORTLAND, Ore. — Representatives of half a dozen Oregon women’s rights groups have voted unanimously to pursue an Ethics Committee investigation of Sen. Bob Packwood (R-Ore.) in the wake of allegations that he made unwanted sexual advances toward 10 women over the last two decades, a spokeswoman for the newly formed coalition said Tuesday.
Mary Nolan, former president of Oregon’s National Abortion Rights Action League and spokeswoman for the 20 women and men who convened Monday night, said the coalition has enlisted legal counsel to file complaints with the Ethics Committee.
It also sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell (D-Me.), urging that the complaints against Packwood be “fully and seriously investigated.”
Packwood spokeswoman Julia Brim-Edwards said Tuesday that he would have no comment.
Among other groups at the meeting were Oregon chapters of the National Organization for Women, Planned Parenthood and the Oregon Commission for Women.
