Graffiti Vandals
To postulate that society is helpless in the face of graffiti (letters, Dec. 26) is the very essence of our problems. Society has regressed to the point that we no longer mete out punishment that fits the crime.
Justice would be best served when apprehended graffiti vandals are punished by forcing them to renovate their ill-conceived deeds. For example, make them responsible for keeping graffiti-free a mile stretch of inner-city freeway, at their expense, for a period of time depending upon the severity of their vandalism.
