OXNARD : Suspect in Bank Heists Is Arrested
An Oxnard man suspected of pulling a series of county bank heists last year was arrested Friday for violating parole on an earlier bank-robbery sentence.
Richard Basil Bustamante, 52, was taken into custody in Oxnard and transported to the Ventura County Jail. He is expected to be transferred to a prison to await federal charges on the 1992 bank robberies, said Charlie J. Parson, an FBI special agent in Los Angeles.
Bustamante is suspected of committing four bank robberies in western Ventura County from Nov. 6 to Dec. 14, Parson said. A photograph taken of him during one of the heists was published in area newspapers, leading to tips about his identity, he said.
