Princess Diana Reportedly Wants Divorce
LONDON — Britain’s Princess Diana, who separated from husband Prince Charles last month, wants a divorce and is willing to concede custody of her two sons, the Sunday Mirror said. Buckingham Palace sources denied the report.
The newspaper said Diana, 31, made the decision after months of consideration.
She did not plan to become queen and was considering a total withdrawal from public life, it quoted sources “at the heart of the princess’s circle” as saying.
“Diana is pushing as hard as possible to extricate herself from her marriage and the Royal Family,” the newspaper said, quoting a “highly placed” source.
The paper said Diana had decided to avoid a custody battle for Princes William, 10, and Harry, 8.
But a palace source quoted by Britain’s Press Assn. news agency dismissed the article as “total rubbish” and “beneath contempt.”
