Radio Rips at Robinson Draw Mixed Reactions
Bill Dwyre’s analysis of the firing of Larry Smith (Jan. 3) and his observation that USC President Steven Sample knows that alums are not going to give “bundles of money to their school based on success in the physics lab” and repeated by a letter writer (Jan. 9) cannot be allowed to go unrebutted.
USC recently completed a five-year program raising more than $550 million. A $40-million addition to the USC/Norris Cancer Hospital and Walter Annenberg’s $26-million gift, among others, were not predicated on the football team’s standings in the polls.
Winning may be everything, but at USC, it’s not the only thing.
