Irvine High linebacker Ryan Jones has turned down football scholarship offers from Oregon and Fresno State in hopes of landing a baseball scholarship in the spring.
Jones, a first baseman who missed half of last season with a knee injury, said USC and Nevada have shown interest in him for baseball.
“I think I’ll be happier playing baseball,” he said. “I’m not putting any of the (football) programs down, but I just couldn’t see myself playing football in college.”
