Ventura’s Lampkin Transfers Rushing Talents to Valley College
Vince Lampkin, one of the Western State Conference’s top all-purpose rushers, has transferred to Valley College from Ventura, Valley Coach Jim Fenwick said Thursday.
Lampkin, who will be a sophomore, played receiver, running back and even some quarterback for Ventura last fall.
At Valley, Fenwick expects to use him as a running back or slot back, possibly replacing Benny Evans, who has completed his eligibility. “We’re going to figure out some way to get him the ball,” Fenwick said.
Paul and Erik Williams, defensive backs who were teammates of Lampkin at Birmingham High and Ventura, also have transferred to Valley.
Other players transferring to the Monarchs, according to Fenwick, are: Sean Fitzgerald, a former Agoura High standout; Harold Boudreaux, a Moorpark College running back, and Dave Erhardt, the No. 2 quarterback at Pierce College last season.
Fitzgerald punted and was a reserve strong safety at Idaho State last season. He was an all-league quarterback at Agoura.
Valley also has hired Dan Barnes, a former Northridge volunteer assistant, as its defensive line coach. Barnes, a former El Camino Real and USC offensive lineman, helped coach the Northridge offensive line last season.
Fenwick said Tom Stevenson, the former Taft High coach, and Steve Morrison would not return to the Valley staff next season.
