THE MARSHALL PLAN: Newport Beach now has a consulate-general of the Republic of the Marshall Islands--the first ever in the U.S.--at 1500 Quail St., to promote tourism of the Marshall Islands and to attract American businesses to invest there. The islands chose Newport Beach because of its major business centers. Says its spokeswoman, Ann Foster: “We’re here to get the word out.” If you’re map-searching, the islands are 1,500 miles southwest of Hawaii.
