HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Van Nuys Girls Win Showdown

Vennicia Kingston came off the bench to score 16 points and Erika Upton added 14 to lead the Van Nuys High girls’ team (9-5, 7-0 in league play) to a 58-55 victory over North Hollywood (13-6, 5-1) Friday in a showdown for first place in the Mid-Valley League.
North Hollywood had a chance to tie, but a three-point shot rimmed the basket with five seconds left. Anna Celaya scored 20 points for the host Huskies and Darvena Merritt added 13 points and 11 rebounds.
