With Ohio State coming off an upset of top-ranked Indiana earlier this week, No. 5 Michigan was not about to take the Buckeyes lightly.
Jimmy King made two jump shots to give Michigan a five-point lead with five minutes to play, and Jalen Rose made it stand up with three free throws in the final 29 seconds as the Wolverines defeated Ohio State, 66-64, Sunday in a Big Ten Conference game at Columbus, Ohio.
Ohio State had defeated Indiana, 81-77, in overtime Tuesday night.
“They were riding the emotion after winning against Indiana and trying to get into the NCAA tournament,” said Rose, who scored 17 points. “We had to match how hard they played.”
Michigan improved its record to 22-4 overall and 11-3 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines are in second place, two games behind Indiana and half a game ahead of Illinois.
Juwan Howard scored 18 points and had 16 rebounds for Michigan. Chris Webber did not score in the first half and finished with eight points and 11 rebounds.
No. 25 Pittsburgh 51, Georgetown 48--In a Big East Conference game at Pittsburgh, the Panthers held Georgetown (13-11, 6-10) scoreless over the final 2:52 to end a three-game losing streak.
Pitt (16-8, 8-8) had lost six of eight, jeopardizing an NCAA tournament bid that was all but wrapped up when the Panthers were 13-2.
