In other Empire League games:
Cypress 6, Loara 5--Cypress (5-2, 1-0) won its league opener, scoring three runs in the seventh inning. Dave Martin singled home the winning run. Loara dropped to 1-6, 0-1.
Esperanza 9, Los Alamitos 2--Jason Murrietta had three hits, including two doubles, to lead Esperanza (5-2, 1-0). Josh Taylor led Los Alamitos (0-1) with two doubles.
In the Century League:
Foothill 16, Orange 0-Alden Weaver pitched a two-hitter and David Trentini and Jeff Bailey hit back-to-back homers as Foothill (3-4, 1-0) defeated host Orange in the league opener for both teams. Jeff Pickler had three hits and four RBIs.
Canyon 7, Santa Ana Valley 1-Corey Cruz pitched a two-hitter and James Jekums had three hits and three runs batted in for host Canyon (5-2, 1-0).
Villa Park 5, El Modena 1--Scott Henderson pitched a two-hitter and struck out 12 to lead Villa Park (3-4, 1-0). Jeremy Bentley had three hits, including a double and a triple, for the Spartans.
In the Freeway League:
Buena Park 5, Sunny Hills 3--Roger Montenegro drove in two runs with a fifth-inning single to give visiting Buena Park (5-0, 1-0) a 4-3 lead in the league opener for both teams. Sunny Hills is 5-3, 0-1.
Troy 2, Sonora 1--Brian Burchit singled in James Hartford with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Troy (6-0, 1-0).
Rick Parmenter picked up the victory while striking out eight.
Fullerton 2, La Habra 2--The game was called on account of darkness in the middle of the 11th inning. The game will be made up later. Fullerton and La Habra are both 1-5.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Estancia 4, Costa Mesa 3 (8)-Estancia’s Jairo Arceyut struck out 16 batters in a complete-game victory. Victor Martinez drove home Art Martinez on a fielder’s choice in the eighth inning for visiting Estancia (5-1, 1-0). Costa Mesa is 2-4, 0-1.
Laguna Beach 10, Laguna Hills 7-Ryan Sauers had a game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Laguna Beach (4-3, 0-1) won its league opener. Sauers also pitched the final three innings to earn his first victory.
Trabuco Hills 5, Century 5 (7, darkness)--Brad Cervantes, who had three hits and two RBIs, singled home Tom Fill with the tying run in the bottom of the seventh for Trabuco Hills (3-1-1, 0-0-1). Tom Reimers and Christian Duran hit home runs for Century (3-2-1, 0-0-1).
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 12, Magnolia 0--Josh Egan pitched a three-hitter and Mike Brambilla had two hits, including a home run, for host Brea-Olinda (5-2, 1-0) in the league opener for both teams.
In nonleague games:
Claremont Webb 13, Capistrano Valley Christian 9--Darrick Border had a double and a triple to lead Capistrano Valley Christian (2-4).
Ocean View 5, Cerritos Gahr 0--Brad Churchill had three hits for Ocean View (7-1).
Santa Ana 8, Bolsa Grande 4 (6, darkness)--Jose Aguilar, Saul Alverez and Mark Fausto each had two hits and an RBI for visiting Santa Ana (1-6). Alex Francisco had two hits, three stolen bases and an RBI for Bolsa Grande (1-2-1).
Westminister 4, Los Amigos 0--Westminster’s Keith Cowley had two hits and two RBIs and Matt Murphy pitched four scoreless innings to earn the victory. Westminster’s record is 5-3.
Santa Ana 9, Bolsa Grande 4--In a game called on a account of darkness, Santa Ana’s Jose Herrera allowed two hits and struck out four in four innings to get the victory. Juan Macinas had 3 RBIs for Santa Ana (1-6). Bolsa Grande is 2-4-1.
