Kellee Booth
School: Santa Margarita
Sport: Golf
Class: Junior
Late in her round at the CIF-Southern Section team championship at Stockdale Country Club in Bakersfield June 7, Booth was in a fine position, three-over-par with five holes to go. Then things fell apart and Booth finished with a 79 after a bogey, two double bogeys and two pars. She hoped the rocky finish wouldn’t hurt her team’s chances at the title, but feared the worst. “If we found out we lost because of my score, I was going to be devastated,” Booth said. Booth was feeling fine when she found out Santa Margarita had won the title by five strokes over Del Mar Torrey Pines. That afternoon, Booth, who was the top-ranked junior player in the nation last year, won her second consecutive title in the girls’ individual competition, shooting a three-over 74 from the women’s tees.
Other top performer:
* Laguna Hills’ Eunice Choi shot two-over 73, the low round of the day, to help the South to a 19-5 victory over the North in the Southern California PGA Orange County all-star golf match.
* Mater Dei’s Jennifer Clark saved her own victory in the Orange County North-South all-star softball game. Clark pitched three scoreless innings, left the game and then returned with no outs and the bases loaded in the seventh to retire the side to save a 6-3 victory.
* Amber Journell made a running catch of a pop fly for the final out in Laguna Hills’ 5-4 softball victory over Irvine in the Division III title game.
