WORLD IN BRIEF : NICARAGUA : Another Arms Cache Found
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Nicaraguan soldiers have unearthed another major weapons cache believed linked to former Salvadoran rebels, seizing machine guns, grenades and 650 pounds of plastic explosive. The arsenal was dug up near Jinotepe, a city about 30 miles south of the capital, Managua. It was the second big arms cache found near Managua to be blamed on the Salvadoran rebels. The first discovery, in May, prompted the U.S. Senate to vote to cut off all aid to Nicaragua and could threaten peace accords that ended El Salvador’s 12-year civil war.
