Korean Troupe to Open UCLA Season
Opening the 1993-94 season at the UCLA Center for the Performing Arts, Festival of Korea will launch its national tour of the United States with a concert titled “Chongak and Eunyul Talch’um: Traditional Music and Dance of Korea,” at Royce Hall, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m.
Declared an “intangible artistic treasure” by the Republic of Korea, the masked-dance company Eunyul Talch’um is making its first tour outside Korea in its 300-year history. The troupe’s 12 actors-dancers are accompanied by five musicians.
The concert will open with 25 musicians and dancers from the Korean Traditional Performing Arts Center in Seoul performing Chongak, the classical court music and dance of that country.
