Shakespeare O.C. Ends Season Ahead of ’92

ORANGE —  Shakespeare Orange County sold about $77,400 in tickets during its just-completed second season, a rise in attendance of about 8%, according to director Thomas F. Bradac.

The third season might be longer--three plays, including the troupe’s first non-Shakespearean work (“what we’re calling a chamber theater piece,” Bradac said Thursday). The Shakespeare plays under consideration are “King Lear,” which had been announced for the second season but was withdrawn, and “Twelfth Night.”

Stagings will remain at Chapman University but perhaps in other locations on campus as well as the 256-seat Waltmar Theatre, where all the productions have been mounted.

Attendance this season was 2,386 for “Much Ado About Nothing,” about 49% of capacity, and 1,757 for “Julius Caesar,” about 32%. Income from the shows fell within projected levels, Bradac said.
