SUNSET LEAGUE : Bedard’s Runs Put Servite in Position to Defeat Santa Ana

FULLERTON — David Bedard led Servite in rushing but let his teammates do all the scoring as the Friars beat Santa Ana, 28-12, in a Sunset League opener Friday night at Cal State Fullerton.
Bedard, a junior tailback, gained 146 yards in 18 carries as Servite amassed 340 rushing yards and 18 first downs on the ground. Peter Thompson, a senior fullback, scored two touchdowns and rushed for 61 yards in just five carries.
Servite (1-3) had its first possession after Santa Ana missed a 33-yard field goal. The Friars then drove 80 yards in 12 plays with Thompson scoring on a 14-yard run with three minutes 48 seconds left in the first quarter.
After an interception by Kristian Valles, Servite drove 73 yards in seven plays, with Frank Patti scoring on a 13-yard run with 7:38 left in the half.
Mark Fausto of Santa Ana (0-4, 0-1) passed for 311 yards and a touchdown and scored on a 10-yard touchdown run with 49 seconds left in the first half to cut the lead to 14-6. But Servite scored twice in the third quarter to go ahead, 28-6.
