SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Arneson Fills In Admirably, Lifts Rio Mesa, 35-13

Steve Arneson stepped in for the injured Don DiDomizio at quarterback and led Rio Mesa High to a 35-13 victory over Oxnard on Friday night in a Channel League game at Rio Mesa.
Arneson, a junior, and John Espinoza each threw a touchdown pass and rushed for another. Espinoza threw a 32-yard touchdown on a halfback option pass to Charlie Boch for the Spartans’ first touchdown and scored on a four-yard run to finish the scoring.
Arneson scored from 10 yards and passed 42 yards to Mike Contreras in the second quarter. Contreras also had two interceptions.
Arneson carried 13 times for 76 yards. Running back Junior Liufau (15 carries, 111 yards) scored from six yards as the Spartans ((4-1, 1-1) amassed 297 yards rushing.
Oxnard opened the scoring when quarterback Taj Lewis hit Mike Maddox from 51 yards. David Cameron scored from 23 yards with 32 seconds to play.
