A 20-year-old driver died after his car was struck broadside by another car as he tried to make a left turn, the California Highway Patrol said Wednesday.
Robert Brenner of Mission Viejo was westbound on Live Oak Canyon Road shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when he tried to go south on El Toro Road, CHP Officer Jay Rice said.
Brenner failed to stop completely at the stop sign, went in front of oncoming eastbound traffic, and was struck broadside by another car, Rice said.
Brenner died shortly afterward at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, Rice said. The driver of the other car, who was not identified, was treated for injuries at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, Rice said.
The accident was still under investigation, he said.
