PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Santa Ana Beats Marina, Takes Sunset League Lead

Santa Ana took sole possession of first in Sunset League boys’ soccer by defeating Marina, 2-1 in overtime, Friday at Santa Ana.
Freshman Francisco Lagunas won it 10 minutes into overtime on an assist by Jaime Santana. Gerardo Velazuez scored the Saints’ first goal. Jose Mata had seven saves for Santa Ana (13-4-2, 10-1-1), ranked sixth in Orange County.
No. 7 Marina is 14-5-1, 9-2-1.
In other Sunset League games:
Fountain Valley 2, Edison 0--Brian Billings and Nick Pulglesi scored for Fountain Valley (5-9-5, 3-5-4) in the upset of No. 5 Edison (16-4-1, 8-4).
In the Century League:
Foothill 5, Santa Ana Valley 5--Steve Patterson scored three goals, and Foothill (6-7-6, 2-3-3) rallied from three goals down with 20 minutes remaining to tie No. 6 Santa Ana Valley (13-3-5, 3-3-2).
In the Freeway League:
Sonora 1, Sunny Hills 1--Chris Fernandez scored with 10 minutes left for No. 10 Sonora (13-5-3, 6-1-1), which is tied for first with Sunny Hills (13-5-3, 6-1-1). D.J. Buckley scored his 15th goal for the Lancers, tying him with Fernandez for the league lead.
In the Garden Grove League:
Santiago 2, Garden Grove 1--Antonio Diaz and Albert Mendez scored to help Santiago (12-3-3, 10-0-2) clinch its second consecutive league title.
In the Orange League:
Anaheim 5, Valencia 0--Juan Lopez and Jose Sanchez each scored twice for host Anaheim (17-5-2, 6-2).
In the South Coast League:
Mater Dei 1, El Toro 1--John Gerdis scored for No. 2 Mater Dei (18-1-4, 5-1-2), and Rickey Le scored for No. 8 El Toro (15-3-5, 4-2-2).
Capistrano Valley 1, San Clemente 1--Mark Springer scored with 10 minutes left for Capistrano Valley (12-5-4, 4-2-2). Justin Sparks scored in the first half for San Clemente (7-8-7, 1-2-5).
In Sea View League girls’ soccer:
Newport Harbor 2, Woodbridge 0--Shellie Bradbury and Jill Nelson scored for visiting Newport Harbor (12-8-2, 8-3-1).
In the Sunset League:
Fountain Valley 3, Rosary 1--Mindy Miller scored three goals for Fountain Valley (10-7-5, 5-2-4).
