SEASON AT A GLANCE: The 5-foot-7 guard is averaging 10.8 points and 4.4 assists and has been the floor leader for the Panthers, who are 21-4 and placed second in the Marmonte League with a 12-2 record.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Wastell hit the game-winning shot with seven seconds to play in last Tuesday night’s 39-37 victory over Channel Islands, ranked third in the Southern Section Division I. She finished with 13 points as the Panthers ended the Raiders’ 19-game winning streak. Wastell also had 21 points, including three three-point baskets in the first half, during Newbury Park’s victory over Royal on Thursday night. “She’s the key to the ballclub,” Coach Nori Parvin said. “Without her, we can’t do the things we’ve been doing out there.”
