A 33-year-old Port Hueneme man has been arrested on suspicion of firing a bullet at his wife, with the round entering an adjacent apartment and narrowly missing a neighbor, police said.
The shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. Sunday as John Tran and his wife, Qin Chen, 24, were arguing loudly in their apartment on Madera Circle, police said.
During the argument, police said Tran pulled out a .38-caliber handgun and fired one shot that missed Chen by two feet. The bullet then passed through a wall and into the apartment of 39-year-old Richard Garza next door, police said. The bullet missed Garza, who was standing at a sink.
Tran was taken into custody by police and booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He was released Monday on $5,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Ventura County Municipal Court.
