SANTA CLARITA — A friendly poker game erupted into a shootout Saturday in a rural area of Canyon Country, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
At about 7 p.m., three men playing cards during a party at a ranch in the 16100 block of Sierra Highway got into an argument with their hosts over winnings and left the party. The men returned later and two of them got out of a car and fired an unknown number of shots at the house, said Sgt. Bruce Sonnenblick of the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station.
Women and children were among about 25 guests at the party and were inside the house at the time of the shooting, authorities said.
The driver, Martin Rico Hernandez, 30, of Canyon Country was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
A .9-millimeter handgun and ammunition were found in his car, authorities said. The two shooters are still at large.
