Poll Finds Israelis Would Obey Palestinian Police

JERUSALEM — An opinion poll published Friday as Israeli troops turned over control of Jericho showed that a majority of Israelis would obey a Palestinian policeman’s order to stop in self-rule areas.
The Dahaf Institute poll of 535 Israeli Jews, published in the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, showed 59% would obey an order to stop their cars in Palestinian self-rule areas, 30% said they would not and 11% did not respond.
Even among Jewish settlers in the occupied territories, many of whom oppose the Israel-PLO peace deal, more were ready to comply with Palestinian police commands than to disobey. Of 302 Jewish settlers polled, 45% said they would obey, 40% said they would not and 15% did not respond.
