Screening Room : ‘The Serengeti’ Gets the IMAX Treatment

The flawless, 40-minute “Africa: The Serengeti” (opening today at 11 a.m. at the IMAX Theater in Exposition Park) makes superb use of the five-story-high screen to capture the awesome beauty and grandeur of the annual migration of 1.5 million wildebeests across the vast, unspoiled plains of the Serengeti National Park. To his credit, director George Casey does not skirt the survival-of-the-fittest aspects of the journey nor does he overlook the need to protect endangered species.
“Africa: The Serengeti” was an awesome undertaking logistically, requiring an 18-week shooting schedule.
The film will screen at 11 a.m. and 1, 3, 5 and 8 p.m daily through July 28. Continuing to screen are “Beavers,” “The Dream Is Alive” and “Chronos.”
