Rival Gangs Brawl in Ventura Parking Lot
Two rival street gangs clashed Sunday night in a convenience store parking lot in Ventura’s Montalvo area, authorities said.
Dozens of Ventura police officers and Ventura County sheriff’s deputies responded to the store in the 6300 block of Bristol Road around 8 p.m. after receiving several 911 emergency calls.
When officers arrived, they encountered some 25 to 30 suspected gang members involved in a brawl.
Officers quickly stopped the fight, but because none of those fighting would press charges, no arrests were made.
A Ventura police spokesman said those who were fighting were detained, interviewed, photographed and released at the scene.
Two people involved in the melee apparently were injured, but refused medical assistance.
Police said a toy handgun was recovered but that no weapons were discovered. No officers were injured during the incident.
