LA HABRA : Police in Search of Drugs Find Unexploded Bomb
Police serving a search warrant for narcotics and paraphernalia Thursday were surprised to find an unexploded smoke bomb instead.
Although police did not find any of the suspected methamphetamine, they arrested Brian E. Bales, 37, of La Habra, on suspicion of possessing narcotic paraphernalia and a deadly weapon, said La Habra Lt. Wayne Lowry. Bales was being held in La Habra City Jail Thursday.
Narcotics paraphernalia can include smoking, weighing or illegal injection devices. Lowry would not specify what paraphernalia or weapon Bales allegedly possessed.
Two men and one woman in the house in the 1500 the block of Sheffield Street, a single-family residential area, were evacuated at about 7 a.m. when officers found a box labeled “grenade.”
Police called in the Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad, which removed the box, examined it and took it away to be destroyed. The smoke bomb did not go off. No one was injured.
