In Support of Measures

When Rosa Lee Measures was elected to the Ventura City Council last year, she did so with a huge majority of the voters in the city. Her campaign was forthright and honest (a mirror of her personal life and longstanding reputation) and the issues she addressed are the very things she presses on to implement now.

Yet, self-appointed community gatekeepers, disconcerted in their own perspectives, now seek to not only mobilize a recall but spend precious dollars of our city’s resources to realize their own agenda. It would cost thousands of dollars to invoke a special election in answer to a recall.

The challenging of Councilwoman Measures’ ethics and integrity is laughable to anyone who knows her or has worked with her. Saying she violated legal codes, while questioning her honesty and professionalism borders on the slanderous.

Her promises to support the bringing of more business and therefore jobs to our city, as well as her support of “open spaces” and parks, was known at the inception of her campaign, throughout the days leading up to her election, and certainly now.

There has been no “conflict of interest,” nor violation of trust on the part of Rosa Lee Measures. She has simply been doing what she promised, and was elected to do. Yet now she becomes a lightning rod of people’s frustration. If there is any conflict, it is only of someone else’s interests and desires. Watching this, it makes one wonder if there is any hope for us, when after electing those with a strong moral fiber, they are the ones to absorb attack. There certainly is something wrong with this picture.
