THOUSAND OAKS : Roadside Sensors to Display Car Speeds
- Share via
Motorists speeding along the winding streets of Thousand Oaks will soon be confronted with their crimes in foot-high numbers on a roadside display, according to Thousand Oaks police.
The department recently acquired two $8,000 radar trailers. Parked at roadside, they will display the speed of approaching cars along with the posted speed limit for the roadway.
Deputy Craig Smith said that beginning Thursday, the trailers will be placed at accident-prone locations and at places where residents complain about speeders.
The trailers do not automatically issue speeding tickets to violators, but Smith said officers may be posted near the trailers to nab the worst offenders.
Smith said he thinks the new equipment will make motorists more aware of their driving habits. It will also help drivers check the accuracy of their own speedometers, he said.
