Law Test II
In his Dec. 24 Saturday Letter, John Mendez wishes that “someone would tell Zelig that just because a proposition is passed it does not necessarily mean that it is constitutional.” I stand told. But this put-down is in concert with Salonen’s statement--while in Mexico with the Los Angeles Philharmonic--that the supporters of Proposition 187 lacked knowledge and rationality.
In a democracy we are governed by laws passed by the majority even if the law is not to our liking. The last word on the constitutionality of Prop. 187 has not been said. Until then let us reserve judgment on the knowledge and rationality of the voters who passed this measure.
