Wilson Is Divisive, Jesse Jackson Says
The Rev. Jesse Jackson attacked Gov. Pete Wilson in a speech to area black ministers Tuesday, saying Wilson “is seeding the cloud of poison and division” by criticizing affirmative action and backing Proposition 187.
Jackson called on the gathering of 50 ministers at True Way Baptist Church to get their congregations to “organize, register (to vote) and resist” Wilson and a push to abolish affirmative action in California.
Jackson was joined by the Rev. Al Sharpton of New York. Sharpton accused Wilson of “trying to be Ronald Reagan II.”
Jackson and Sharpton were in Los Angeles recruiting ministers to join a nationwide campaign to politicize black churches.
