BLUES FOR CHILDREN: The latest ribbon for a cause is about to hit Orange County by the ton. The local Child Abuse Prevention Council is launching a countywide blue ribbon button campaign to emphasize its cause. . . . Thanks to corporate sponsors, 200,000 blue ribbon buttons, pinned to informational bookmarks, will be passed out at banks and businesses here during April--in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. Included is its hot line number: (714) 938-0505.
DOUBLE-O-GOLD: It’s been 31 years since “Goldfinger” was the hit movie. But the look of the Goldfinger girl--remember she died from all that body paint?--is still popular. Body painting is not new, but you can expect to see a lot more of it at the beach this summer (E4). And Janor St. Pierre, manager of Hollywood Magic in Costa Mesa, says count on more Goldfinger girls: “Every year, we get Goldfinger requests.” . . . No worry: It’s non-toxic and washes off easily. But she recommends not wearing it to bed--so the skin can breathe a little.
COPS FOR COPS: Mike Stone, a defense attorney in the Rodney King case, was an Orange police officer when he attended law school. Tonight he becomes the first honorary member of the new Badge & Gavel Society at his law school alma mater here, Western State University. . . . It’s a support group for police officers in law school. Says Stone: “The group can benefit these officers, they can get to know people who have been through it--especially when deciding if they want to go into law.”
THAT’S INFO-TAINMENT: In the world of program-long commercials--infomercials--a local resident is regarded as big time. Packy McFarland, 46, of Villa Park is listed by the publication ResponseTV among the 25 “most influential people” in the infomercial--called direct response TV--business. . . . Producer McFarland, who operates his Real to Reel Productions company out of his Villa Park home, said he’s honored, but adds: “Too bad there’s no cash award with it!”
