USC Rallies, Wins Pac-10 Series Opener
USC shortstop Gabe Alvarez highlighted a six-run eighth inning with a tiebreaking triple in the Trojans’ 9-6 comeback victory Thursday over Washington State in the opening game of the Pacific 10 Conference championship series at Dedeaux Field.
The winner of the best-of-three baseball series receives an automatic NCAA Regional berth.
Alvarez was three for four and teammate Paul Cruz was three for six with three RBIs as the Trojans overcame a 6-3 deficit.
Freshman right-hander Jack Krawczyk pitched three scoreless innings of relief to get the victory. Eric Estes took the loss in relief.
