Big West Approves Move to Reno for ’96 Tournaments
IRVINE — The Big West Conference Council Thursday approved the move of the 1996 men’s and women’s basketball tournaments to Nevada’s Lawlor Events Center.
The move to Reno--recommended by conference athletic directors last week--will be the sixth site for the postseason playoffs since they began in 1976. The tournament has been in the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas for the last two years. The event also has been held in the Stockton Civic Auditorium, the Anaheim Convention Center, the Forum and the Long Beach Arena.
The tournaments are scheduled March 7-10. Only the top six men’s and women’s teams based on the final regular-season standings will advance to the postseason playoffs. Previously, each team participated.
