Hilton Hotels Corp. earnings jumped about 56% in the second quarter, boosted by strong results in its gaming and hotel businesses.
Beverly Hills-based Hilton earned $52.9 million, or $1.09 a share, for the period ended June 30, up from $33.9 million, or 70 cents a share, a year ago.
Sales in the quarter were $424 million, against $382 million last year.
Hilton said second-quarter operating income from gaming was $53.6 million, up 41% from $38 million a year ago, based primarily on the strength of high-end table game play at the Las Vegas Hilton.
