Gail Castro and Elaine Roque failed for the first time to make the main draw of a women’s international pro beach volleyball tournament on Thursday in Hermosa Beach.
Castro, a graduate of Crescenta Valley High and Valley College, and Roque lost, 15-13, to Americans Deb Richardson and Dennie Knoop.

Alvin Lamarre will be the boys’ volleyball coach at Crespi next season. Lamarre, who was the boys’ coach at Brentwood last season, replaces interim coach Chuck English.
Baseball
Shortstop David Lamb, a former Newbury Park High standout who plays for the Baltimore Orioles’ Class-A affiliate in Frederick, Md., has been selected to play in the Carolina League All-Star game.
Track
Kate Cerutti has resigned as track coach at Crespi High so she can spend more time with her family, according to Athletic Director Andy Gavel.
Cycling
Chris Walker of Ventura, a member of the Valley-based Nutra-Fig Racing Team, finished third in the Lyons Grand Prix in Lyons, Wis.
Golf
Russell Surber of La Canada-Flintridge fired an even-par 71 Thursday to move into a tie for ninth place after three rounds of the American Junior Golf Assn.’s Rolex Tournament of Champions at the Innisbrook Hilton Resort in Tarpon Springs, Fla.
Surber, a sophomore at Flintridge Prep, has a 54-hole total of 220 and trails leader Steve Scott of Coral Springs, Fla., by eight strokes.
Ross Fulgentis, a Westlake High senior, shot a 74 and is in eighth place at 218.
