Federal Probe Into ADM May Focus on Lysine: A federal antitrust investigation into the $6-billion corn-processing market may focus on lysine, a little-known livestock feed ingredient whose market is dominated by Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. The probe, confirmed last week by Decatur, Ill.-based ADM had been thought to center on high fructose corn syrup, the sweetener used in fruit drinks and other products that is a $2.6-billion global market. But industry analysts say lysine, a swine and poultry feed supplement also made from corn, is in a less-competitive market.
