Elsewhere in the country, Citicorp, the nation’s largest banking company, Tuesday reported modestly lower second-quarter earnings, while Chemical Banking Corp. posted a 27% rise in profit.
Citicorp said its second-quarter earnings fell to $853 million from $877 million in the same quarter of 1994, when its results were boosted by a big tax credit. Absent the $200-million credit, the latest quarter’s earnings would have been up 25% from a year earlier.
