Rally to Mark Salazar’s Death
A march and rally are scheduled today in East Los Angeles to mark the 25th anniversary of the Chicano Moratorium protests and the slaying of journalist Ruben Salazar.
Marchers are to begin gathering at 7 a.m. at Belvedere Park, at North Mednick Avenue and 1st Street.
At 8:30 a.m., the march will proceed south on Mednick to 3rd Street, east on 3rd to Atlantic Boulevard, south on Atlantic to Whittier Boulevard and west along Whittier to Salazar Park.
A rally will be held at 11 a.m. Speakers scheduled to attend include Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers of America, Xenaro Ayala of the La Raza Unida Party and a representative from the National Committee for Democracy in Mexico.
Organizers said they expect 2,000 to 3,000 participants. The theme of the march is “Fight Back.”
