Mauricio Escalante, 25, of Granada Hills died early Saturday when the motorcycle he was racing collided with a car on San Fernando Road at Sepulveda Boulevard in Sylmar, Los Angeles police said.
Police said Escalante was traveling south on San Fernando Road at 12:40 a.m. when an oncoming car swung a U-turn across his lane. He died at the scene, police said.
The crash occurred on a strip of San Fernando Boulevard that is frequented by drag-racers on Saturday nights, they said. Police said the driver of the car was among many onlookers who had gathered along the strip, and was moving the car to the other side of the road while a race was in progress. No charges have been filed.
