ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREP EXTRA : Wallace, Falcons Rout Dana Hills : Prep football: Senior rushes for 257 yards, and Santa Ana Valley breaks second-half tie to cruise, 42-20.
DANA POINT — B.J. Wallace fumbled on his first carry, but he didn’t do much wrong after that.
Wallace, a senior, ran for 257 yards and a touchdown in 20 carries as Santa Ana Valley rallied from an early deficit for a 42-20 nonleague victory over host Dana Hills Friday night.
Wallace’s 80-yard scoring run on the Falcons’ second possession of the third quarter broke a 14-14 tie as Santa Ana Valley took advantage of mistakes by Dana Hills to coast.
Wallace also had runs of 37, 18, 33 and 23 yards. His output was the second best for a Falcon back. Former Santa Ana Valley tailback DeWayne Cherrington, a freshman redshirting at Colorado, rushed for 329 yards against Dana Hills in 1993.
“I was just running with power,” said Wallace, who had 186 yards in the second half. “And of course our line blocked very well. The holes were there all night.”
Dana Hills (1-3), which stopped a 19-game losing streak with a victory over Bolsa Grande last week, fell apart in the second half. After Dana Hills’ Mike Deter missed a 27-yard field goal, Wallace broke up the middle, eluded several tackles and outran the Dolphins to the end zone for a 21-14 lead with 2:19 remaining in the third quarter.
On the kickoff, the Falcons recovered the ball after the Dolphins failed to field it. Three plays later, Falcon quarterback Jason Parrott scored on a two-yard run with 1:03 remaining in the quarter for a 29-14 lead.
An interception by Lee Calvin led to a nine-yard run by Parrott, who finished with three touchdown runs. Valley’s Leafi Naea finished with 124 yards rushing and a touchdown in 13 carries.
