Mushinski, Saugus Defense Stymie Woodbridge

IRVINE — Jeremy Mushinski rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns in 21 carries to lead Saugus High to a 27-0 victory over Woodbridge in a nonleague game Thursday night at Irvine High.
Saugus Coach Jack Bowman praised his team’s defense along with Mushinski’s effort.
“It was a pretty dominant shutout,” Bowman said. “We played everybody defensively.”
Saugus (2-3) held the Warriors (0-4-1) to 65 yards. Woodbridge’s Brian Millat completed five of 22 passes for 39 yards.
Chris Kobe of Saugus completed six of 16 for 102 yards, including a 30-yard pass to Ryan James in the first quarter to set up Mushinski’s first touchdown, a one-yard run. He also scored twice from two yards.
Gregg Johnson had receptions of 13 and 17 yards.
In the fourth quarter, Travis Lahey recovered a Woodbridge fumble that led to the final touchdown, an 18-yard run by Lynn Wilde.
Saugus scored once in each quarter despite being penalized 11 times for 80 yards.
Mark Pecaro of Saugus gained 38 yards in seven carries.
Woodbridge repeatedly went to the air, despite several near interceptions by the Saugus secondary.
