Stingy Chaminade Blanks Nogales
LA PUENTE — Jason Giovannettone scored three touchdowns and a stingy defense helped Chaminade High post a 28-0 victory Friday night over Nogales in a Southern Section Division III quarterfinal.
Giovannettone rushed for 162 yards in 28 carries and scored on runs of 42, two and six yards. Glenn Orbach scored the other touchdown on a 40-yard run in the fourth quarter.
The Eagle defense forced four turnovers, including three fumbles. The Nobles (8-4) gained only 37 yards in the second half. Jeremy Sisante, Gabe Crecion and Tim Bomicino had sacks for Chaminade (11-1).
“It was a great night for the defense,” Coach Rich Lawson said. “Our goal was to stop the run because of their great athletes.”
Chaminade took less than two minutes to score on Giovannettone’s 42-yard run.
Chaminade stopped the Nobles deep in Eagle territory twice in the first half.
The Eagles drove 72 yards in 13 plays with Giovannettone scoring from two yards in the third quarter for a 13-0 lead. Chaminade’s other scoring drives covered 67 and 53 yards.
