Fiat Chairman to Step Down: Gianni Agnelli is giving up the chairmanship after 30 years and turning the company over to its No. 2 official until the next generation of leadership is chosen for Italy’s biggest company. Agnelli’s 31-year-old nephew, Giovanni A. Agnelli, has long been viewed as the heir apparent. But Cesare Romiti, 72, will run the company for a few years to prepare for a “generational passage” in management, the company said. Agnelli, who will turn 75 in March and has suffered from health problems, said he will continue to exercise some decision-making power through his role as chairman of the Agnelli holding company, IFI.
