The Crenshaw boys’ basketball team made its way into the final of a national tournament in San Diego before losing to the No. 1-ranked team in the country. St. Anthony of Jersey City, N.J., defeated the Cougars, 90-74. Crenshaw’s Alastiair Faux scored 23 points against St. Anthony, but St. Anthony and its coach, Bob Hurley, were too much for the Cougars. Hurley, the father of Sacramento King guard Bobby Hurley, recorded his 600th victory. . . . Also in the tournament, which was played at Torrey Pines High, Manual Arts finished third. . . . Another City Section team that fared well at a holiday tournament was Dorsey, which won the Channel Islands tournament and made it to the finals of the Kentucky King of the Blue Grass tournament in Louisville. Jason Patton led Dorsey, averaging 25 points and six rebounds in victories over Starkville, Miss., White Station, Tenn., and Christian Country of Louisville. . . . The Fremont girls’ basketball team won the Fairfax tournament. . . . Crenshaw joins 11 other teams in the Second Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Challenge on Monday at Pauley Pavilion.
