Lite Candy: Mars Inc.’s Milky Way Lite candy bar is the first on the market to meet recent Food and Drug Administration regulations for a “lite” label. It has 170 calories instead of the 220 found in the average chocolate bar, and five grams of fat, half the usual amount. The company used polydextrose, a carbohydrate with one calorie per gram, compared with the four calories per gram of other carbohydrates, to reduce the calorie count.
