Obituaries : Sharon T. Filzen; Earned 2 Medals in Army

Sharon T. Filzen, an 11-year Ventura County resident, died Wednesday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was 43.

Filzen, a Camarillo resident, was born in Hendricks, Minn. She served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Filzen received the National Defense Service and Good Conduct medals.

She previously lived in Fountain View, Calif., and was employed as a bookkeeper for four years.

She is survived by her daughter, Karin Marie Filzen of Everett, Wash.; two sisters, Linda Fryer of Camarillo and Sandy Vernland of Brookings, S.D.; and seven brothers, Steve Ebbinga of Port Hueneme, Don Ebbinga of Slayton, Minn., Dick Ebbinga of Menomonie, Wis., Bob Ebbinga of Cottage Grove, Minn., John Ebbinga of Tracy, Calif., Bill Ebbinga of Elkton, S.D., and Ted Ebbinga of Mulketeo, Wash.

Visitation is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at College Heights Baptist Church, Ventura. A memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Bill Gorrell officiating. Burial follows at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo.

Arrangements are by Conejo Mountain Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Camarillo.
