MARGIE ON THE MEND: “My Little Margie”...
MARGIE ON THE MEND: “My Little Margie” star Gale Storm, 73, says she is determined to recover from a shattered hip she suffered after slipping on the floor of her Los Angeles condominium last month. . . . Storm is undergoing physical therapy at Palm Terrace Health Care Center in Laguna Hills. She says: “I’m crying and carrying on, but I’m working real hard because I know it has to be done.” Storm and her husband, retired television executive Paul C. Masterson, also have a home in Laguna Beach.
ALWAYS FAITHFUL: Local Marines have joined the effort to find a matching bone marrow donor for the daughter of Angels’ batting coach Rod Carew. Michelle Carew is fighting a potentially fatal form of leukemia at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. She is of racially mixed heritage, making a donor difficult to find. . . . Tustin Marines will be tested Jan. 24 and El Toro Marines on Jan. 25. Says CHOC’s Andrea Pronk: “We’re hopeful for a match because Marines come from all over the country and from many different ethnic backgrounds.”
REPRISE: When Willie Nelson, above, and Leon Russell performed four shows at the Coach House last month, it was their first concert together in 17 years. It went so well that they will return Feb. 23 and 24. A small tour may follow. . . . Says Coach House marketing director Nikki Sweet: “I think they had such a good time together and liked it that they decided to do it again.”
ON YOUR MARK: This morning’s Southern California Half Marathon and 5K race in Irvine has attracted Olympic hopefuls like Rancho Santa Margarita’s Danny Gonzales, Fullerton’s Joey Gomez and Guss Quinonez of Huntington Beach. Says race director George Varvas: “With it being an Olympic year, all the runners are stepping up their workouts.” . . . Upward of 4,000 runners of every size, shape, age and ability are expected to take to the streets starting at 8 a.m.
