South Bay : SPRUCING UP LAWNDALE
Years behind its neighbors in pursuing economic development, the Lawndale City Council has unanimously decided to begin work on a plan to build up Hawthorne Boulevard.
A study conducted a year ago concluded that a one-mile strip on Hawthorne Boulevard just south of the San Diego Freeway had outstanding potential for economic growth because nearly 55,000 cars travel through that strip daily and it is close to the freeway.
The council agreed to explore the opportunity. The next step will be hiring a consultant to do a feasibility study.
